NOTE: This change will NOT affect patrons living inside the BLRL library district (only those outside Barry-Lawrence counties will be affected).
People often mistakingly say that library services are free, but this is not true. Books, DVDs, and online platforms like Libby and Hoopla are expensive. Still, the library uses public funds to provide them to the people who live in our service area and pay taxes to receive these valuable benefits at no direct cost to our patrons. The BLRL provides such fantastic services that many people living outside our library district pay a modest fee (currently $20 annually) for a BLRL Library Card. However, this fee is no longer sufficient due to the rising costs and growing use of popular online platforms.
The Barry-Lawrence Regional Library will increase the non-resident library card fee from $20 to $30 annually starting on January 1st, 2025. We value all our patrons inside and outside the district and remain committed to our mission of Connecting People to the Transforming Power of Knowledge.
